Ella was a bit more irritable today. We think it might be related to discontinuing fentanyl. Although they have been giving her small doses of morphine to try and help make the transition less drastic, it is still a change for Ella.

We were at the hospital for a total of 8 hours today. We probably only saw her awake for 1 hour, albeit intermittently.

The nurse from the morning shift said that Dr. Kays has seen the result of her upper GI and is planning to put her on the schedule for surgery this upcoming week. Now that we know her reflux is on the severe side and that she is experiencing pain, we feel that it is the best move for Ella to have the nissen surgery. We would like to see it happen sooner versus later.

When we prayed, we asked the Lord for a specific sign of which direction to go with the surgery. Although we did not want her reflux to be severe, I am happy that God answered our prayers for a clear answer/confirmation.

Matthew 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

We know already that it is going to be tremendously difficult to watch her go through another surgery. Just think: her scar will be fresh again plus they have to intubate her for the surgery and a short time afterwards. Initialy, her progress is likely to get worse. Please pray that we can stand strong in our faith, knowing that He is in control of all the details of this journey.

Thanks for all the continued thoughts and prayers for sweet Ella and her roommates, Jonathan and Par. We pray for healing – – complete and total healing.

Lifting you three and Ella’s roomies up in prayer today. Yes, we are grateful for the difinitive answer but still not the one we had hoped for. You guys and Ella have become like Job to some of us and hope that we do a better job than some of his well meaning friends to love you and support you. We sit at the edge of your camp and pray for you as God does His mighty work in and through you and your blessed family. Your sister in Christ, Roxie

*sigh* I see what you mean about another surgery. However, it seems the best route for her long term health and comfort. I will pray for the impact to be enormously good and the discomfort to be as minimal as possible- for all of you. Praise God for a trusted surgeon. Praise God for Ella’s strength. Praise God for you beautiful parents. Praise God for pain meds while we are healing from surgery and the like. xoxox

Once again we knew from 20 weeks that Ella’s journey here would be difficult at best. She has come through very rough times. Her parent’s too have relied on the Lord for her outcome. We know that she cannot sustain reflux without damage.
One giant step forward. We will be praying and feeling the Lord’s hand on this beautiful baby girl. We will pray for Josh and Tina to be able to do what the Lord has planned. We love you Josh,Tina and Ella. All our Love and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Aunt Char and Jim

We will definietely be praying for you guys and Ella as she faces surgury. God had been so faithful to you and Ella and I know He will continue forever!! I can only imagine how hard it is to watch your baby go through all this. The West Family is so TOUGH!!! You guys are amazing and blessing so many people through your challenging time. I think we should makwe this whole experience into a movie. Of course Brad pitt would have to play Josh to make it realistic right Josh!!! We’ll be praying for you guys.

Your sweet baby has gone through so much in such a short time and yet she is so strong. God is continuing to work in her life. We are as always thinking and praying for the three of you and the other NICU babies. If you change your mind about Thanksgiving the door is always open. It was so good to see you the other week and we would love to see you soon. Jordan is doing so good and before we know it Ella and Jordan will be playing together. Hope you have a wonderful week. We are so thankful that we met you guys. Love-Julie

I know how difficult it is to anticiapte and go through another surgery…Luke had the Nissen procedure done at 5 weeks and it was so hard to watch him relapse a bit…but he bounced back very quickly and so will Ella! You do not want to be dealing with severe reflux and the possibility of aspiration AND be so far away from Dr. Kays and the staff at Shands once you’re all home! We will be praying for the surgery this week and for Ella’s strength…and yours too! Thanks so much for keeping us all posted so well!
