We’re writing this post from a Starbucks while we wait for my mom to fly into the Gainesville airport. Tina and I have already had a fun filled weekend with our friends who came to visit from Orlando.

The Boemler-Wareing clan made the trek up to spend time with us and our baby girl. We had lunch together yesterday, then decided to go see the butterflies at the museum with the kids. Afterwards, we headed over to see our baby girl for a bit. After visiting with the Bun, we timed it right so we could all head over to the campus to see the bats leaving their house. This is something you need to see a couple times just to take in.

It was great to share our girl with the Boemler-Wareings, and we enjoyed having the company of friends who we love so much.

Speaking of loving so much, the one who we love more than we could have imagined is doing well. Her last blood gas looked good (pH=7.41, cO2=45, pO2=94) and overall Ella has not been very fussy.

One thing she has been doing though is gagging a lot. With the reduction of her sedation, she is feeling things a lot more, and one of those things she’s feeling is her ET tube (breathing tube). This has been incredibly hard for me to watch. Being with her when she goes through one of these moments just cranks up my anxiety.

She’s so close to having this tube removed, it’s just hard to see her go through all this right before that point. I just want ease her wrenching, but there’s nothing I can do but pat her and contain her softly.

As I was sitting here thinking about it, the Lord impressed upon my heart to trust Him even through these smaller things. To come through what we did three weeks ago, and then find myself so anxious at this moment seems silly. I know it’s not silly, because I know it’s very human to feel this way. But God wants us to rest in His peace and trust Him in ALL things, not just the big things.

We continue to pray for our baby girl’s strength and for the perfect timing of her extubation. Please pray that she won’t have to be re-intubated after they remove her tube. This does happen, and in some cases, even happens a few times before the baby can be fully off the vent. We would just prefer that she wouldn’t have to go through it, but we surrender to His sovereignty through these events no matter how it plays out.

Thank you Jesus for our beautiful baby girl.

UPDATE 12:15AM (EST): Ella has been running a slight fever for about the last 12 hours or so. They ran a CBC that came back ok, but she’s had the fever long enough to justify additional tests and start her on more antibiotics. Please pray for no infection this evening and that the antibiotics will resolve whatever may be causing her temperature.

Josh and Tina…Praising God for Ella’s good reports and His hand in your lives. I’ll be praying tonight for enduring strength for all three of you, for His loving hand on your hearts as the waves of anxiety come and as you release your thoughts and concerns into His hands.
By the way Josh, Ella Bun seems to have more hair than you!!! She is so beautiful. 🙂 Love to you guys, Roxie

My heart goes out to you during another trying time. Watching someone struggle with an ET tube is very difficult…….you wish you could take the struggle for them. I pray that this will be sweet Ella’s final trial with the ET tube. Ella looks wonderful……the Lord has indeed worked through her and touched all of us with his glory and faithfulness!

We cannot imagine watching her struggle with her ET tube. Oh sweet girl, you have such strength. I pray Ella will have comfort through the night as she rests. And I pray that when the tube comes out, it stays out for good! Blessings to you and your precious family!

Dearest Josh, Sweet loving father. You have such feeling for your little girl. Imagine how Father felt in Gethsamane. Oh Josh, those nurses and Dr. Kays would not let her suffer needlessly after all she has been able to endure. Strength and Struggle travel together. We will pray to help relieve this little angel and know in our hearts that you have become her father able to feel the slightest discomfort. It is hard. I know it is. You have been brave beyond your years. We pray continually for forward progress and strength for her parents. The struggle seems unimaginable. We pray for angels to attend her as she moves forward. We love you and are so proud of your bravery in the face of such a difficult task. Be sure our Father has plans to help. All our love, Jim and Char

Oh… Ella, you look wonderful. So sweet!!! You are doing great. Keep up the good fight.
Josh and Tina- let go and let God!! I know it is easier said then done but look at where He has brought you. Rest in His arms and know that He has a plan for all of you and your sweet little family.
Lord, I pray that you would bring Ella’s temperature down. Strengthen her even more each day. Please let there be no infection and let the breathing tube come out and remain out. We pray that Ella would be able to breathe on her own without the need for the vent. May your will be done Lord. Ease Josh and Tina’s anxiety and give them peace.
We praise you for this family and where you have brought them. Thank you Lord for the blessing of Ella’s life. What a blessing to be able to see Josh and Tina hold Ella for the very first time since she was born. How powerful!! Thank you for giving them patience and waiting for your perfect timing.
We ask that Ella would continue to move forward and heal. It is so amazing to see your healing hand in all of this.
Continue to guide and direct Dr. Kays in his next steps and care for Ella. Give him wisdom and knowledge as to what to do.
Thank you for being so present in the midst of everything.
AMEN.
Love, Melissa

Dear Josh and Tina – you will always ache over even the smallest things that cause sweet Ella any discomfort – this is perfectly normal and part of that ‘parent’ thing. It is so hard to see things happen that we as, parents, can’t fix. As you both know, our saving grace is His grace and love – only His touch ‘fixes’ everything – Both of you have such a depth of faith and love for Him and this will grow and carry you through the rest of your lives. We will pray that the fever is nothing serious and she will continue to move forward without further stress to her little body. So glad that family and friends are able to visit – prayers, love and hugs – STeve and Joan
