Ella did not have a great day.

Above, she was doing okay. This was around 10am this morning during physical therapy. But as the day continued, Kelly described her as being fussy. You could just tell that she wasn’t feeling well. Even when she was sleeping as seen at the bottom of the post, her face was showing distress.

We did get the results of her labs this morning. Her BUN was 17 which is too low. This means that we are going to increase her diuretic. Likely, we will increase it to 2x per day for the next 2 days to bring her back in the right direction. After that, we still need to decide if we want to try to give diuretic 2x per day, every other day or every third day. We’re also consulting with her pulmonologist to see which he wants to do and if we should get another set of labs in 2 weeks.

Thank God that tomorrow is Friday. It has been a crazy week at work for me and lots of late nights. I’m wiped out.

We hope and pray that Ella will feel better soon. It’s so hard to ride on this roller coaster. One day she is great and then 2 days later, she can be in a bad place. It’s so hard to know what to do for her.

Father, we life up Ella Renae to you in Jesus name. Lord, we ask that you would help her little body to operate in manner in which it should so that Ella can feel better. We praise you and thank you for our beautiful baby girl, the gift that she is to all of us. We ask for wisdom and discernment as her parents. Help us to know the right amount of medication to give Ella, so she can feel her best with minimal side effects. We thank you for Kelly and the blessing she has been to the West family. We ask that you would help each one of us to continually seek your face each day, so we can walk in obedience and follow your plan for our lives. Thank you for the many blessings that you bestow upon us. We’re forever grateful and we know that we don’t deserve it. Thank you again for the gift of faith and how you love us so much that you press us forward and push us into situations that might not be comfortable so our faith can continue to strengthen. Amen.

Isaiah 1:18-19
“Come now, let us reason together,”
says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.

If you are willing and obedient,
you will eat the best from the land”

My goodness I love this little girl soo stinkin’ much. It breaks my heart to see her uncomfortable like this. And there’s so little peace in knowing “we’re doing what we can,” because it’s still not enough–so it seems.

Something I remember you (Tina) writing a couple of months back when Ella was still in the hospital was something like this: “even when she’s having a cruddy day and she’s feeling icky, she still takes time to smile at her mommy.”
And it’s days like today that help me empathize with you–days like today when she just feels Blah, but she’ll still make the effort to smile and laugh and cuddle some–it’s like her little sign of appreciation. What a miracle to have a child who not only has the capability TO smile, but has such a precious and miraculous smile indeed.

Father God, bless this child. Heal her. Use her. Protect her as you have protected all of us. And guide us to properly medicate Ella so that we can swing in the right direction and get her back to her old self.

Her spirit is contagious. It melts my heart, as I know it melts yours. It can be overwhelming at times when she’s inconsolable or uncomfortable or sometimes downright miserable, but God always grants His perfect peace at just the right time. It’s not easy, it’s certainly not fun, and we don’t have to enjoy all of the junk Ella has to go through in order to simply function, but somehow He takes a moment to individually calm and comfort us when we need it most.

Being able to be with Ella and take care of her (and be in the presence of you guys) has perhaps been the biggest blessing I’ve ever been given. Praise God for that.

“…Peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

It must be so hard to tell which symptoms are “Ella specific” and which are baby specific! Katherine has had similar symptoms with teething, but who knows? Fortunately, God does. And fortunately He is in charge. Prayers are with you as always.
