Other than the swelling in her head, Ella had a pretty good night. Her O2 saturations have been looking good, usually pegging the 100% mark, and her pO2 numbers have been in the 90’s and 100’s, good for where she is right now (pO2 = total amount of O2 in her blood stream). Her cO2 has been elevated though, probably due to the secretions in her lungs, so they’re tweaking the ventilator to get that to come down.

Tina and I are feeling better this morning, once we heard that nurse Angie is taking care of our baby girl today. Angie said she would try and extend her hours a little more today if she could get her sister to watch her kids. Heck, I’d watch her kids every day if she would watch our baby girl! Angie confirmed that I didn’t know what I’d be getting into, but I just figured I be so worn out after taking care of 2 boys and a girl, that I’d just sleep better at night. =)

Angie confirmed that Ella has been more engaging this morning compared to what we saw last night. She’s watching Angie as she works, and Ramona the monkey hanging from her “vine” has caught her attention too.

We’re also waiting to talk to Dr. Kays about his thoughts on Ella’s swelling. Her head is just so much bigger then before. I just hope that it’s only getting a little worse before it gets a lot better.

I woke up at 5:15am, thinking of my baby girl. I was feeling anxious about the swelling in her head, and couldn’t go back to sleep, so I spent some time praying and reading the Word. I flipped open my Bible right to Psalm 3, and verse 5 spoke to me in that moment: “I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me.” The life application notes expanded on this:

Sleep does not come easily during a crisis. … David cried out to the Lord, and the Lord heard him. The assurance of answered prayer brings peace. It is easier to sleep well when we have full assurance that God is in control of circumstances. If you are lying awake at night worrying about what you can’t change, pour out your heart to God, and thank him that he is in control. Then sleep will come.

Wow…how much does God rock! I then came across Psalm 5:1-3 (NLT):

1 O Lord, hear me as I pray;
pay attention to my groaning.
2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God,
for I pray to no one but you.
3 Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord.
Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.

This is the reason why it’s called the “Living” Word of God. It amazes me how God speaks to us so clearly though His Word. I found myself reading a few more passages and then proceeded to fall back asleep. =)

Psalm 13 is my prayer for today:

1 O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?
How long will you look the other way?
2 How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul,
with sorrow in my heart every day?
How long will my enemy have the upper hand?
3 Turn and answer me, O Lord my God!
Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.
4 Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!”
Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.

5 But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
6 I will sing to the Lord
because he is good to me.

Praise you Lord! Amen.

How awesome that we serve a God who knows all of our needs. He comforts us and gives us peace in the mist of a storm. I am so thankful that the Lord has given you a nurse that you feel comfortable with. I an happy to read that Ella is alert today. I am sure that relieved some stress. God is so good. I will pray that you get to talk to Dr. Kays soon and that his words bring you reassurance. Also I ask the Lord to continue his perfect work in Ella, for she is fearfully and wonderfully made. Father please heal this child, your child. Touch her body and remove all swelling in her head. I ask you to strengthen her lungs and I praise you Lord for all you have done in Ellas life and all you are going to do. Thank you for the doctors and the nurses that you have provided to care for her. Thank you for your healing hand that is upon her. You are so amazing Lord and we love you. In Christ precious name…..Amen
Have a blessed day
Tamara

I WILL UPHOLD YOU WITH MY RIGHTEOUS RIGHT HAND

Love you guys!

We love it when Angie (the angel) is working. She is such a breath of fresh air and we can hear it in your writings. Heck if you need us to watch her kids, just say the word. Lord knows we have the experience. The kids and Rick worked for about an hour and a half on the beach yesterday making a rock formation. The formation read “please pray for Ella”. They were stopped by folks asking about Ella and then joining in with all those praying. We now have Catalina praying for Sweet Ella.
Love you guys and we are praying for a decrease in swelling today.

I’ll echo what Tracy shared…Isaiah 41:10 is the verse Carl and I clung to while Luke was in the NICU. We are praying without ceasing for sweet Baby Ella and for you guys. You are both doing AWESOME with these highs and lows…remind each other of that often!

We have got some major prayer warriors lifting you guys up! Last night I spent over an hour reading your blogs from the very beginning and when I read the part about you e-mailing the doctor and him e-mailing you right back I just cried with joy at how God handles all the DETAILS! And then today with those different bible verses He gave you – you said it… the LIVING WORD! His fingerprints are all over this whole situation and I will be so excited the day I get to MEET that little girl of yours first hand! Wow… what a little MIRACLE! (Can I also just say that hearing Josh sing to her at the end of “Isn’t She Lovely” sent me over the edge!) Our prayers are with you on this side of the globe. We got the “night shift”!

T&J Just got up from my morning nap. Glad to hear that Ella had a better night and that you are feeling better. My prayers are focused on Ella’s next step to reduce fluids and swelling. Thank you Angie for watching Ella and keeping my kids the big ones relaxed. Love Ya, Grandpa

I am impressed that you can find peace in knowing you are not in control. Even though I understand that concept I still often resist giving in. It is not so difficult when the issue lies with me. It is much more difficult to watch a loved one walk the path. Our prayers to you to calm and relax you. Our love to Angie for her continued care for Ella. Thank God for the opportunity to meet such dedicated individuals. Thank kyou Lord for letting us in.
We are with you. Love, Aunt Char and Jim

WOW! Ella, you continue to grow bigger and stronger. Josh, you and Tina both have a way of making each of us feel like we are in the hospital with you. Angie does provide you all with comfort. You are all so precious. With all our love, Kristin, Marques & Lauren
