Ella’s condition has not gotten worse, but she has not improved either. Currently her care has not changed course and will stay the same over the weekend.

We talked to Dr. Kays today and surgery is scheduled for either Monday or Tuesday of next week. At this point, unless Ella has a tremendous weekend and makes large improvements, she will be having surgery on ECMO.

As we mentioned before, the risks of surgery on ECMO are high. The primary risks would be the possibility of severe bleeding as well as an increased risk of bleeding in the brain which could cause brain damage.

Of course, we would love to see Ella’s stats miraculously improve over the weekend. But if that does not happen, we just want to pray that she can gain as much strength as possible and that the surgery will be successful.

Also, we want to let everyone know to pray for Dr. Kays. He actually had to leave town for today and the remainder of the weekend due to a family emergency. All we know is that his mom was undergoing surgery today in Oregon and that he went there to be with her and his family. Please lift up the Kays family in your thoughts and prayers as well.

Have been running down from bed to check for an update. We have baby Ella on the brain in the Richards house. Our special guy, Luke, is especially concerned for her and loved seeing the video. We have lined up friends to take our kids so we can come visit…we just have to wait for them to come back from Guatemala on Sunday. Praying for your beautiful little family and for wonderful Doctor Kays. Brendan says he’ll actually wear a Gator shirt in tribute for what Doctor Kays has done. Just don’t tell his friends. Love, Lesli

If love was all it took, Miss Ella, you’d be leaping tall buildings in a single bound. Meanwhile, we pray that you can feel our love and His in your spirit, precious one. You too, Mom and Dad. Hugs, prayers, smiles and tears for you all day everyday. XOXOXO

One of the first things I do each day is to say to myself–let’s see how our baby girl is today!. I’m starting to think of her as all of our baby girl because there is so much love for her here. Each day I pray she is stronger because I want to see her without the machines, without the tape, and without the tubes. I want to see her past the surgery and past the hurdles that you all will (along with us out here) be facing. And I’m praying for a miracle because I believe good things can happen (especially where prayer is a factor). God bless the nurses and doctors. Let them all be alert to her needs and in the moment with her in every way. Love to all.

Dearest Josh, Tina and Sweet Ella: The Lord carries all three of you in His arms through this journey because He loves you and you are His most precious, special children. He is with the Kays family in the same way and will not desert any of you in the hours of need that lie ahead for each family. Ella has brought so much love and joy to each of us and the two of you have deepened and strengthened so many peoples faith and love of our Lord. I pray that the three of you and Ella’s caregivers rest well this weekend and be refreshed for the coming days. Our love for all of you deepens every moment as do our prayers. Lord Bless, prayers and hugs. Joan and Steve Odell
